The
Thompson 35 has been designed to fill the gap for a large
racing yacht that is capable of being towed on a trailer
that can be dry sailed.
This boat has a removable rudder and a lifting keel, there
is a central lifting hook on the top of the keel for hoisting
onto its custom built trailer. This boat is pure racing
with a large roomy cockpit with all sailing controls carefully
placed for ease of use, yet we have managed to provide a
functional interior for racing and short cruising.
Performance will be exhilarating with a large sail plan
and a heavy lead bulb for added stability. The boat is expected
to be capable of beating the forty footers upwind and to
blow them away downwind. We have completed extensive testing
on the design and have shown exceptional light air performance
both upwind and downwind and yet it is a very stable and
fast boat in a breeze. This boat is ideally suited for both
inshore and coastal racing. The hull sections are a development
of our successful T30 being fine upfront to allow the boat
to sail well in a chop.
These boats are hand made using the best materials and methods
available, all the skins and cores are vacuumed in place
and post cured using epoxy resins throughout. Carbon, kevlar
and
e-glass are used in the hull and decks to provide a strong
and stiff structure. The keel incorporates a high tensile
beam for safety and stiffness. Spars are carbon fibre with
rod rigging. Running backstays are not required, as the
mast has been carefully designed to gain forestay tension
from the permanent backstay and mainsheet.
The sail configuration uses non overlapping jibs and asymmetric
spinnakers. The mainsail has a carefully designed roach
profile that allows the air to exhaust when required. The
bow prod articulates internally and retracts into the hull
when not in use. This allows deeper angles to be sailed
downwind. The deck hardware package is Frederiksen and Andersen.
We provide a comprehensive sail package to your chosen sailmaker
and support from our US team.
The T35 will have a development
class rule that will allow for some fine tuning of the
boat and no driver or crew type restrictions. However
crew weight will be restricted.
Design
The T35 is a custom design for PHRF racing.
The designers have utilises the latest VPP software to help
create a boat that is very fast and stable upwind yet exhilarating
downwind.
It features wide and comfortable side decks and a large
cockpit, all of the sailing controls are simple and easy
to use.
The rig features a permanent backstay with the option of
twin topmast backstays for the larger roached mainsails.
Construction
The T35 is constructed using kevlar and epoxy resin with
a foam core. Carbon fiber is used for additional stiffening
where appropriate.
The boats has been designed to be easily built and therefore
low cost.
The keel and rudder are constructed using carbon fiber stiffening.
Specification Rig The mast is carbon fiber with aluminium
spreaders. Rigging is Rod with a Vectran backstay.
The bow pod is articulating and carbon fiber.
Deck Fitout Full Harken fitout with winch
option.
Sails Mainsail, light and medium jib with
a heavy air option.
