Postponement of BBQ

Unfortunately we have had to postpone the BBQ for Saturday 30th May as the Marina site is not as far along as we had hoped.
Due to some unseasonal rain and site drainage problems access to the site is not available.

Please keep the 27th of June available for the BBQ. Also the opening party will be scheduled for the end of July.
This will be a big Hawaiian style party with live band and lots of fun.

I will keep the Blog updated with marina progress. http://tboat.com/tblog/……

Marina construction starts

Give me Liberty

For the second year, The 2009 Liberty Cup was held during the long national holiday week end in Vietnam, 14 relaxed races were held at Jibeâ€™s Beach Club on stunning Mui Ne Bay. Rain and light wind discouraged some to enter the event, but the 6 international teams competing in this Fun event were very competitive and eager to win the trophy. The all- girl team finished 3rd overall but won for their enthusiams and smiles, ( Julia UK, Satoko Japan, Lucy Australia).

During day 1 and 2 fourteen races were held, leaving Markâ€™s Team and Olivier and his crew with 3 wins each. The pressure was on for those 2 friends on the ground. On Sunday morning, having recovered from the party at Jibeâ€™s Beach Club the night before, both teams put extra care in getting their boats ready for the final race. Mark Walton and his crew won the race and the Liberty Cup over Olivier Laforest; after a bad start Mark had a good speed upwind that enabled him to over take Olivier and win the last leg with 2 minutes lead. Generally, the level of the teams has risen compared to the 1st edition, resulting in more entertaining starts and races to the spectators that were not bothered by the sunless weather. Genekers were successfully used in most of the legs.

Once again, the organization was perfect with Race officer Janot Prat who had set up a short but challenging course well in view of the weekenders on the beach The racing rules were simple and efficient, perfect for fun racing . Thanks to Jibeâ€™s Beach Clubâ€™s team for getting the 2 boats ready and organizing the BBQ beach party on the Saturday,

The 3rd edition of the Liberty Cup will be on the 30th April and 1st May 2010 at the same location, hopefully with a better weather and a larger field. Jibeâ€™s Beach Club is working on a new event, the concept will be teams of two on the golf course and the same teams on the sailing boats, then scores will be combined, it promise to be a very fun event, date will be finalized at a later stage

Over the last 12 months there has been more sailing event organized in Vietnam it finally shows the interest in sailing on the South China Sea and confirm the raise of interest in water sport in the country.

Winners are grinners

Wally, aka Mark Wallace, owner of the T30 Demonstrator in NZ waffles on about racing in the Nexus Gold Cup in Auckland.

Best results for us are races 2 and 6

The last one was a classic – only 6 miles out of 60 as a true beat up thru the Bottom End in next to no breeze – and the other bastards came thru in an Easterly and were in our cockpit off Passage Rk, basically the finish times are what we put on them from Passage Rk to the finish. We were about 25
minutes in front of Powerplay at Gannet Rk until then.
We could only see 2 bow lights behind us at Gannet – and they were masthead lights.
Course was out to Whangaparaoa, back up leaving Rangi to port then Waiheke to Stbd. Started in a sthly which went west as we headed up the bays -blew us nicely out of the Wade River without gybing (planned move – true story!).
Forecast was for sw going s then se so what are we doing with a westerly off the Bays? Meant we had a cracked sheets ride back into town rather than a beat – choice!! only Powerplay and Starlight got us but as we hoisted mhd genniker of Nthn Leading we could see the big boats parked off Issy Bay.
Quite a bit of gybing to stay in puffs saw us sail straight round them and off into the distance, just walked away from them, with the Mumm 36 next boat at that stage. Coming in from Passage had us in a westerly which had us pretty glum but 20 minutes later the breeze swung rnd the the E so up with msthd again and fucked off into the distance -again. PP was sneaking
down the Waiheke shore as we gybed across towards Cockle Bay/Eastern Beach.
They were looking good – until I checked on nowcasting (which I do regularly) and whaddaya know? 7knts at Tamaki strait – from the Sth! and here it comes and we fuck off again!! everywhere we went in the whole race the breeze followed us – shit we’re good tacktishuns eh?

Ben Landon sailing the T650 in SF

In this months latitude and electronic latitude couple of great shots of the boat in a recent doublehanded event.

Boat is really going well we now have floating leads for the jib (no tracks )which just makes an enormous difference as they are adjustable from the high side rail, a new number 3 has just been ordered to complete the sail inventory.
